Training Your Dog to Use The City Loo

For most, getting their dog to use the City Loo was an easy transition. The natural smell of the real grass entices dogs to use the bathroom. For the dogs out there having a harder time, this training can be done as easy as the following three steps. If you are using potty pads, the smell of the fresh grass may not be the case, but most of these pads come with an attractant already on them.

You may need to try both Options to figure out what works best for you and your pet.

Option 1

Step One

Plan to start training in the morning when your dog has a full bladder.

Step Two

Before you start your training, don’t let them see you put treats in your pocket. Use these treats to reward them after they use the bathroom.

Step Three

Physically place your dog inside the City Loo and use your command for using the bathroom, most use “go potty.” If the natural smell of the grass isn’t enough to get them going you may need to repeat this if they try to get out. Once they do go potty, give them their reward. Do this every time they use the City Loo.

Option 2

Step One

Plan to start training in the morning when your dog has a full bladder.

Step Two

Before you start your training, don’t let them see you put treats in your pocket.

Step Three

For some dogs, we have found that putting the treat inside the City Loo for them to “find” allows them to walk in there on their own and eventually they go to the bathroom. Have them sit at the door entry and make them notice your treat by putting it in front of them to smell saying, “wait”, then as you toss the treat in the City Loo, tell them to “go potty.”
